A mig welder runs off electricity and uses the electrical current to raise the temperature of the base metal and fuse the filler metal (MIG wire) together in an electrical arc.

This is your welding process.

The electrical current is passed from the power point on the wall, into the welding power supply, through the welding torch.When the trigger is squeezed the current then travels through the contact tip onto the wire making the welding wire live and conductive. On the part you want weld, you attatch the "welding earth" lead. Then when the MIG wire touches the earthed part, the electrical circuit is complete. As a result, the electricity starts to flow making a flash of sparks and an arc is created.

This arc is welding, without it you have nothing. Remember that "arc welding" is the process of welding using electricity. Mig welding is still arc welding as it uses electricity to make an arc, it’s just that we call it MIG welding.

Telescopic ladders are more costly than regular step or extension ladders, but their convenience makes them a worthwhile investment. Safety IssuesIt is essential when extending a telescopic ladder to ensure that all safety latches are secure before stepping on the rungs. As with most products, there are slight design differences among telescopic ladders that make the higher-end models more secure than less costly options. Some telescopic ladders can be collapsed section by section. Less expensive models require just one latch to collapse the entire length, which can result in pinched fingers or painful falls for the unwary user.

Also, telescopic ladders should not be used around electrical wiring or during an electrical storm. That’s because telescopic ladders are made of anodized aluminium are therefore good conductors

MIG welding was developed in the 1940’s and 60 years later the general principle is still very much the same. MIG welding uses an arc of electricity to create a short circuit between a continuously fed anode (+ the wire-fed welding gun) and a cathode ( – the metal being welded).
The heat produced by the short circuit, along with a non-reactive (hence inert) gas locally melts the metal and allows them to mix together. Once the heat is removed, the metal begins to cool and solidify, and forms a new piece of fused metal.
A few years ago the full name – Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding was changed to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) but if you call it that most people won’t know what the heck your talking about – the name MIG welding has certainly stuck.
MIG welding is useful because you can use it to weld many different types of metals: carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, silicon bronze and other alloys.
Here are some advantages to MIG welding:

• The ability to join a wide range of metals and thicknesses
• All-position welding capability
• A good weld bead
• A minimum of weld splatter
• Easy to learn

Here are some disadvantages of MIG welding:

• MIG welding can only be used on thin to medium thick metals
• The use of an inert gas makes this type of welding less portable than arc welding which requires no external source of shielding gas
• Produces a somewhat sloppier and less controlled weld as compared to TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding)

How to Drill a Bore Hole

Drilling a borehole is the first step in the installation of water wells, methane probes and water-level piezometers. You can drill a borehole and case it to keep the hole open, or the borehole may stay open without a casing if the surrounding soil or rock does not cave. Boreholes can be a variety of diameters and depths depending on the ultimate use. Your drilling company will choose a proper auger size and rig type for your project.

   Mark your borehole location with spray paint or a yard flag, then call the local utility companies and ask them to inspect your location for the presence of underground lines. The utility companies will mark your property with flags or paint to alert you to the location of the buried lines. Keep your borehole location at least two to three feet away from any underground lines. If your original spot is too close to a line, move the borehole for safety.

   Attach the drill bit and lead auger to the rig. Drill until the top of the auger is one to two feet from the land surface. Attach additional auger flights, and continue to drill until you reach the desired depth.

   Remove soil cuttings from around the borehole as they expel from the augers, if you are using hollow-stem augers. Remove this cutting to ensure the augers are free to rotate. Pile the soil on your property for later off-site disposal, or spread the soil in a layer on your site.

How Water Well Drilling Works

Water wells have been drilled since ancient times. Wells are an excellent source of water for small groups of individuals, as wells tap into below-ground reservoirs and allow for water even during times of infrequent rain or drought.

1. Historically, water wells had to be drilled by hand. A group of workers would have to dig with shovels and a bucket until they reached the water table (the level at which groundwater pressure and atmospheric pressure are the same).

2. Modern-day wells are drilled mechanically. This involves drill rigs transported by truck. These drills can reach as far as 1,000 feet into the ground.
